CABSR is home to the Developmental Disabilities Planning Institute (DDPI). Established in 1994 with a grant from the New Jersey Developmental Disabilities Council and the Division of Developmental Disabilities, DDPI provides technical assistance to the State of New Jersey in the area planning for persons with developmental disabilities. The Institute provides empirical information and conducts research studies to guide New Jersey's developmental disabilities planning and policy development processes.

DDPI recently completed an assessment of the impacts of de-institutionalization on the competencies and well being of persons with developmental disabilities, together with a study on the needs of family members who are currently caring for persons with developmental disabilities in their own homes. Current activities focus on evaluating the impacts of increased in-home supports for persons with developmental disabilities and a study of adolescents with developmental disabilities who are aging out of the educational system in New Jersey. Further information is available at their website - www.ddpi.njit.edu
