Deane M. Evans, FAIA
Director
Deane Evans is a Research Professor and serves
as Executive Director of the Center for Architecture and Building
Science Research at NJIT.
Mr. Evans has over 20 years experience - in both
the private and public sectors - in architectural design, construction
technology and building performance. For twelve years Mr. Evans
was in private practice with Steven Winter Associates, Inc.,
an architecture/engineering firm in New York City, where he
rose to the position of Senior Principal. In January 1990, Mr.
Evans became the first, full-time Director of the AIA/ACSA Council
on Architectural Research, an organization jointly sponsored
by the American Institute of Architects and the Association
of Collegiate Schools of Architecture. The Council's main purpose
was to foster research which benefited both the architectural
curriculum and activities within the profession, and which positively
impacted the built environment and the public at large.
In January 1995, Mr. Evans accepted appointment
as the first Vice President for Research at the American Institute
of Architects. In addition, he assumed management responsibility
for the AIA's "Allied Member" and "Continuing
Education Products" programs.
In January 1998, Mr. Evans accepted appointment
as the founding Director of the Partnership for Advancing Technology
in Housing (PATH). PATH is a new public/private partnership
to accelerate the creation and use of advanced technologies
as a means to improve the quality, durability, energy efficiency,
environmental performance and affordability of U.S. housing.
In January 1999, at the conclusion of his one year contract
as PATH Director, Mr. Evans left the Federal government and
returned to private practice, where he developed educational
tools for architects and their clients, including: the Affordable
Housing Design Advisor and the High Performance School Buildings
Resource and Strategy Guide.
On October 1, 2001, Mr. Evans accepted appointment
as Executive Director of the Center for Architecture and Building
Science Research at NJIT, where he also serves as Director of
the Educational Facilities and Housing/Community Development
programs.
Mr. Evans is a registered architect, a Fellow
of the American Institute of Architects and currently serves
as the Vice Chair of the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council.
He has a B.A. from Yale University and an M.Arch. from Columbia.

Christine
Bruncati
Sr. Research Architect
Ms. Bruncati is a research architect
who supports the Center's housing and community development
efforts. Most recent to joining the Center she was a Project
Architect with the New York firm Chris Benedict R.A. creating
environmentally responsible affordable housing. Prior to this
she was an associate at Steven Winter Associates, building systems
consultants, where she advised builders across the country on
technical issues through the DOE Building America program and
HUD's Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing. While
pursuing her Master's degree in Architecture at the University
of Oregon she was a research fellow at the University's Center
for Housing Innovation. Ms. Bruncati continues to give presentations
on housing for such groups as the AIA, NESEA, Green Homes NYC
and Housing First.

Jody Beck
Research Architect
Jody Beck graduated with his B.Arch.
from Rice University in 1995. He
served in the Peace Corps in San Jose de Buenavista, the Philippines
for two years on an urban planning assignment before returning
to Texas to get his license to practice architecture. At CABSR
Jody helped develop the Energy Efficient Rehab Advisor, a web-based
guide to improving the energy performance of existing homes,
and is currently the project manager for the Center's national
"Campaign for Excellence in Affordable Housing Design."
Jody is also involved in a volunteer capacity with several national
groups, including the American Institute of Architects and the
Association for Community Design that are engaged in issues
of affordable housing and community development. He is currently
studying for his PhD in Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania
with a focus on landscape architecture.

Herbert Simmens
Blue Moon Urban Fellow
Herb Simmens has been a Blue Moon Urban Fellow
at the Center for Architecture and Building Science Research
since January 2004. Prior to assuming the fellowship he was
Executive Director of the New Jersey Higher Education Partnership
for Sustainability from 2002 to 2003. From 1993 to 2002 he was
the Executive Director of the New Jersey State Planning Commission.
Earlier in his career he was County Administrator
in Atlantic County, New Jersey and Town Manager in Pemberton
and Galloway Townships. He has also taught at Stockton College.
Herb has a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the
University of Pennsylvania and a Masters in Public Affairs and
Urban Planning from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and
International Affairs at Princeton University. He lives in Princeton
New Jersey.
